Berkeley Buddhist Monastery
Berkeley Buddhist Monastery in Berkeley, California, was established by Dharma Realm Buddhist Association in 1994 with the vision of providing a safe haven of tranquility and wisdom in an urban environment. A community of resident monks maintain a daily schedule of Buddhist spiritual practices, which anchor the classes, lectures, and cultural programs. Facilities include a worship and meditation hall, dining hall, classroom spaces, dormitory rooms, and a small library. The library focuses on Eastern and Western religions and includes books given by Professor Huston Smith from his own personal collection. The monastery is also home to the Institute for World Religions, an educational and religious center dedicated to the study of Asian and Western religious and cultural traditions.
